DESCRIPTION:Help Us Make Quilted Hugs! \nThe quilting group and the care team have joined forces for a project to provide love and care to people in crisis in our congregation\, by making “Quilted Hugs”.  These hugs are fleece lined shoulder wraps that are quilted with beautiful colors on the front and are a way for our church family to know we are thinking of them\, praying for them and that God is wrapping his arms around them as they go through difficult times.  A sample of a quilted hug is pictured here. \nPlease come Friday\, May 18 or Saturday\, May 19 from 10am-4pm each day to help in preparing materials and assembling these quilts.  You can come and go throughout the day as your schedule allows and you do not need to have quilting or sewing experience to help.  Our goal is to make 24 quilted hugs for distribution to our congregation\, but we cannot do this project alone.  We hope that you will join in the experience of bringing love and joy to our church family. \nIf you know ahead of time which day(s) you are coming\, please call or email the office or note the days on your connection card in worship\, or by clicking the button on the right.  This will help us plan space and materials needed each day.  However\, please still come either or both days regardless if you have a chance to sign-up in advance.   We look forward to working on this project with you!

SUMMARY:Cindy Anhalt Scolarship Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:For four years\, we have coordinated the Cindy Anhalt Scholarship. Scholarships have been awarded to recipients in Waunakee (where Cindy taught) and Waukesha (where Cindy grew up).  The scholarships have ranged from $500 to $1\,000. \nUp to this point\, we have relied entirely on contributions.  This year we are running a fundraiser during Waunakee Garage Sale days on Thursday\, May 10 and Friday\, May 11.  It will be held at Crossroads.  The fundraiser will include a bake sale\, rummage sale and silent auction. The silent auction and rummage will include some items from Cindy’s parents home.  Quilts\, dishes and Christmas themed items are among the items in the silent auction.  We hope you’ll have a chance to stop by. \nCalling all bakers:  We could use your help with donations for the bake sale.  If you are willing to help\, we will accept baked donations on Wednesday\, May 9 at the church.  Tammy Hribar will be at the church during the day to accept donations from noon until 5 p.m.  The church will be open again in the evening during choir practice after 7 p.m. \nWe appreciate your help with baked goods\, your attendance during the sale and your prayers. \nFYI – the Scholarship is being awarded on Wednesday\, May 9 in Waunakee in the high school PAC.  The awards presentation for seniors begins at 6:30. DESCRIPTION:Music affects us.  It connects to something deep within.  This fact was not lost on those who wrote the Psalms.  They knew the importance of joining a powerful message to music.  However\, over time the messages carried through the music have changed.  Or have they? \nThrough this six-week growth group\, we will listen and examine the lyrics of songs from various generations and styles.  We’ll discuss the message behind the music and how they mirror scripture or fly in the face of God’s teachings. SUMMARY:Four Chaplains
DESCRIPTION:On January 23\, 1943\, the USAT Dorchester\, escorted by three Coast Guard cutters\, left New York harbor bound for Greenland carrying 902 officers\, servicemen and civilian workers. On February 2\, one of the cutters detected the presence of a submarine but failed to find its position. \nDown in the ship’s stifling hold\, four U.S. Army chaplains\, Lt. George L. Fox\, Methodist; Lt. Alexander D. Goode\, Jewish; Lt. John P. Washington\, Catholic; and Lt. Clark V. Poling\, Reformed\, circulated among the men calming their fears and passing out soda crackers to alleviate seasickness. \nEarly in the morning of February 3 the chaplains were still up just before 1:00 when the torpedo struck. The tremendous explosion threw soldiers from bunks and the lights went out as the stricken ship listed to starboard\, sinking fast.. \nThe four chaplains quickly moved among the bewildered men\, calming them\, directing them to life rafts\, urging them to escape the doomed ship. Many had forgotten their life jackets. The chaplains located a supply in a deck locker and passed them out. When the bin was empty they pulled off their own and made others put them on.. \nThe four chaplains remained on the ship’s slanted aft deck\, standing together\, arms linked\, heads bowed in prayer\, as the Dorchester slipped beneath the waves. Their sacrifice would be remembered as one of the most touching stories of the Second World War\, and their legacy continues to this day. \nThis event was the catalyst for Americans to embrace interfaith understanding. Until the Dorchester\, there was no mention in print of Catholics\, Protestants and Jews working together in this manner\, especially in prayer. It was a transformational moment for America\, the first time all three denominations were recognized by the mainstream population as serving together and with common purpose. \nThis year\, Pastor Kristen has the tremendous honor of representing Crossroads (as the United Methodist clergy) at a Four Chaplains Ceremony at the American Legion Post 348.  I’d like to invite you to this special event on February 20th at 7pm at the DeForest Area Community & Senior Center located at 505 N. Main St.\, in DeForest.  It’s a lovely tribute that brings together a cross section of faith communities as we recognize how these great spiritual leaders embodied Christ’s message.

DESCRIPTION:Love to quilt or sew?  Have never tried but want to learn?  Join the Crossroads’ Quilters on the second Saturday of every month from 10:00am – 2:00pm or the fourth Thursday of the month from 4:00pm – 7:00pm.  The group makes baby quilts for baptisms\, quilts of Valor for our veterans\, and crafts for missions.  There are projects for all ability levels.  Please feel free to join at any time. \nThe groups next meets this Saturday\, January 13\, 2018 from 10:00am – 2:00pm.  Quilting is done in the basement of the church\, so join us just in the back door of the church.

SUMMARY:Youth Ministries Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Sunday\, September 18th for our fall Kick-off to Youth Ministries.  Come participate in the fun\, friendship and faith-based learning. \n6th/7th Grade Home Study\nStudents in 6th-7th grade and their parents participate in a learning environment in parents’ homes designed to provide faith based tools to help preteens address today’s issues and support parents in navigating preteen years and cultivating faith.  Kids work with a parent leader and a curriculum that puts Faith and Life Together covering issues like peer pressure\, bullying\, emotions\, and family relationships. Parents meet separately covering preteen issues and faith building strategies through DVD and other discussion formats.  Following the separate discussion groups\,  all eat dinner together.  This group meets every other Sunday from 5:00-6:30pm.  Contact the church office to receive the location of this week’s meeting. \n 7th-12th Grade Youth Group \nCrossroads’ Youth Group is open to all students in grades 7-12 and meets in Crossroads’ youth room Sundays 6:00-7:30pm. Youth group begins each week with a meal.  Weekly gatherings engage youth with movies\, music\, games\, mission projects\, trips and much more.  Drop in any week for fun\, food\, friends and faith.

DESCRIPTION:Bishop Hee-Soo Jung invites you to join with him on an Interfaith Bus Tour of religious centers in the Madison vicinity\, followed by an Interfaith Retreat. During the tour on Saturday\, Aug. 13\, we will listen to a presentation by the teacher of the Deer Park Buddhist Monastery\, visit Temple Beth El to learn about Jewish worship\, pray and enter into discussion at the Islamic Community of Madison\, visit the American Hindu Association Shiva Vishnu Temple\, and join in discussion and evening prayer at the Gurudwara Sahib Sikh Temple in Middleton. On Sunday\, Aug. 14\, we will hold an Interfaith Retreat at Holy Wisdom Monastery. We will listen to and dialog with three leaders (Jewish\, Islamic\, and Buddhist) about our religious responses to violence\, and conclude with an interfaith service of spiritual meditation and prayer. SUMMARY:Weekend of Service
DESCRIPTION:To conclude Crossroads’ recent RETHINK series\, we are taking the time normally spent preparing for\, commuting to and attending a church service to get out into the community to serve others.  We want to be the church.  During the weekend of April 29th – May 1st\, there are numerous service opportunities for all abilities and ages to work with several non-profits in our community. We challenge everyone to spend time serving that weekend. \nBelow are brief descriptions of the different opportunities\, dates\, times and venues you can sign-up for. You can register online here\, or at Crossroads’ worship services through April 24th.  You can also learn more at Crossroads’ April 17th Ministry Fair and Meal. \nOnce registration is closed\, a team leader will contact you with specific information about the service project to registered for. Sign-up soon\, there are limited spots for some opportunities. \nTri 4 Schools \nTri 4 Schools is a non-profit organization in Dane County dedicated to helping fight child obesity. They aim to instill healthy lifestyles in children so they can make healthy choices throughout their lives. All proceeds from their kid triathlons go to the local school’s health and fitness programs. You can read more about Tri 4 Schools at: http://www.tri4schools.org/. \nSaturday\, April 30th – Two Shifts – Either 6:30-10:30am or 7:30-11:30am at Waunakee High School \nChildren under 15 years of age will be assigned to work with their parents.  Those 15 years and older will be assigned to work on their own.  Please note how many and the ages of children in the notes field of the registration form. \nWaunakee Neighborhood Connection \nWNC’s mission is to “respect and care for our community by connecting partners and neighbors to provide resources and tools to those in need”. WNC operates a store which takes in donations from the community and then provides those household and personal items free of charge to anyone who might need them. WNC also runs numerous other programs for their clients. You can read more about WNC at www.waunakeeneighborhoodconnection.com \nFriday\, April 29th – 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Limit 20 People to Help Prepare for WNC Garage Sale \nThis will include moving items from WNC to the garage sale location (a few blocks away)\, pricing items and organizing items for the Garage Sale. Lifting will be involved for some volunteers\, others can sit and price or help organize displays. Vehicles are needed to haul items from WNC. \nSaturday\, April 30th – 9 a.m. – Noon – Limit 15 people for Outdoor Clean-Up at WNC \nWNC has a yard and outdoor space that needs pruning\, raking\, weeding\, mowing\, and general “outside beautification” for their store. Volunteers are asked to please bring their own tools (pruning shears\, rakes\, shovels\, gloves\, etc.)\, trash bags and/or trash cans. \nSunday\, May 1st – 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Limit 15 people for WNC Store Work \nVolunteers will be hanging clothes\, doing general store organization and sorting\, and will be taking in donations for WNC’s garage sale which will be held the following weekend. \nWaunakee Senior Center \nThe Waunakee Senior Center’s purpose is to help older adults remain independent in their own homes and in their communities by supporting them intellectually\, physically\, socially\, and emotionally. All items will be delivered on Monday by those who deliver these seniors their daily meals from the Senior Center. \n\n \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, April 17th for a Ministry Fair and Meal.   Pastor Kristen will continue the RETHINK series with a message on “ReThink Your Life – You Are The Church”. \nThe Porchlight Mission Team will be sharing a bit about their work at the end of worship and will be blessing us with the meal they make for the Porchlight Homeless Shelter every other month. \nAfter worship stay for the meal and visit different ministry tables as team members share information about their group.  It’s a great way to discover different ways to connect at Crossroads and be the church in our community.  Registration for our upcoming Weekend of Service will be available as well. \nJoin us for what should be a meaningful day of learning\, sharing and fellowship.
