DESCRIPTION:Sept/Oct Mission Focus – Feeding the Hungry \nOur mission focus for Sept-early Oct\, will include support for the Waunakee Food Pantry and Waunakee’s Food for Kidz event.  We need volunteers to sign-up to help with a neighborhood food drive now.  Please sign-up on the back of your connection card. \nFood Bag Assembly – Sun\, Sept 17th after worship\, stay to help assemble bags and door hangers.  All assembly can be done sitting down and includes work with staplers\, rubber bands and counting. \nFood Bag Delivery – Sun\, Sept 17th after worship\, we need 20 volunteers (or families) to deliver food bags and door hangers to about 25 neighbor’s doors.  You will not knock on doors\, just drop off items.  This is a great project for families. \nKEEP THE BAGS COMING!!  Thank you for your donations of new or used paper or plastic grocery bags.  We have collected 375 bags so far but need 500!  Please continue to bring bags.  If we have extra after the project is complete\, bags will be donated to the Food Pantry.

DESCRIPTION:Greetings from Crossroads Sunday School Team \nIt is summertime.   A time to recreate and to enjoy one another and God’s Creation. \nFor the summer\, our team has two goals:  to maintain continuity among the Sunday School children and to reach out to the Laubmeier Park neighborhood.  To achieve these goals\, we have planned three fun\, fellowship\, and faith events.  All events will take place at Laubmeier Park\, the new subdivision just north of the church.  Our hope is that the children from that neighborhood will join in our activities and learn of Christ’s love and our Christian fellowship. \nThe events take place in the early evening (5 pm to 7pm).  During that time\, we will offer a light supper (hotdogs\, lunchables\, etc.)  After supper\, we will have a Bible story and lesson; sharing games; and play on the Laubmeier playground equipment.  If weather permits\, we will have a “water balloon exchange.” \nParents are invited to stay for the activities.  Or\, you may drop off your child(ren) and return at 7.  Families are encouraged to invite friends to join in this time of recreation and witness. \nPlease share this announcement with your children and plan to attend.

DESCRIPTION:Earth Day – Day of Service \nOn Sunday\, April 23rd\, we will not have a worship service at Crossroads.  Instead\, we are asking for people to join in an Earth Day project that day.  Two different projects have been planned during our normal time of worship.  Read the details below to see how to participate and how to donated needed supplies for that day. \n\nInto the Woods \nAid in removing invasive plants\, clearing branches and obstructions on walking paths and pick up garbage in the Arboretum Woods located between BrightStar Care Facility and the entrance to the Arboretum Village Neighborhood.  Meet in the BrightStar Parking Lot (1001 Quin Dr. Waunakee to the west of Crossroads UMC off of Arboretum Dr) at 9:30am Sun Apr 23rd\, for some coffee\, food and instructions to prepare for the work that day.  Bring gardening gloves and wear attire appropriate for time in the woods.  Tools needed will be provided and bathrooms will be available as needed. \n  \nSeeds of Love \nCome to Laubmeier Park (1155 Prairie View Drive\, Waunakee – in new Arboretum Village Neighborhood to the north of Crossroads UMC just off of Hogan Rd) at 9:30am on Sun Apr 23rd to plant your own herbs and vegetable seeds in starter “pods” and then help plant seeds in pots to be given to assisted living residents in the Waunakee Area.  Please bring paper egg cartons\, gardening gloves if you don’t want to get muddy\, a trowel if you have one\, and appropriate clothing.  Coffee and snacks will be provided. \n\nDonations of paper egg cartons (Styrofoam and plastic cartons cannot be used) and 6-8” clay or reusable pots are needed and appreciated.  You can bring your donations that day or can be brought to Crossroads any time before Sun Apr 23rd. If the church is not open\, place your donations by the front door. \n\nWe plan to hold this event even if it is lightly raining.  If we have severe weather\, we will move the Seeds of Love event to the basement of Crossroads Church (5901 Hogan Rd\, Waunakee) and will reschedule the Day in the Woods. \n\nAgain\, there will be NO worship service at Crossroads on Sunday\, April 23rd.  Please use the time you would have been in worship\, in service for the care of the earth and our community.

Lewis\, an Oxford professor of English Literature\, was asked by the BBC to present a series of radio talks about Christianity and Christian belief. These talks were later compiled into the book Mere Christianity. \nThis group will meet\, study and discuss Mere Christianity over six Tuesday evenings from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM starting April 13 over Zoom.  Together let’s explore how Lewis’ ideas\, beliefs\, and concepts hold up eighty years after they were first presented. \nParticipants should have access to Mere Christianity by C. S. DESCRIPTION:Life Line Screening\, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings\, is pleased to offer a preventive health event at Crossroads United Methodist Church on 9/10/2020.  Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening\, for men and women\, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis.

SUMMARY:School Supply Drive
DESCRIPTION:Every year the WNC holds a school supply drive to help provide school supplies to the students in need in the Waunakee School District. This annual event is known as the “Fill The Bus” campaign. The bus will be parked at Crossroads on August 15th from 9 am-11 am. If you cannot shop at this time\, you can donate scrip cards to such places as Walgreens\, Walmart\, and Target and we will do the shopping for you. Otherwise\, you can also donate money either in person on Saturday\, or online on our website. Please be sure to mark all scrip cards or monetary donations for “Fill the Bus”. We will be collecting the supplies in the same we did the food drive earlier this summer. \n1. Place items to be donated in your trunk\n2. Drive to church and enter the drop-off line\n3. Pull up to the designated drop off spot\n4. Open your trunk and a volunteer in mask and gloves\nwill remove your donation and transfer it to the bus\n5. Drive home \nHere is a list of supplies that the WNC needs the most: \n\nLarge backpacks for High Schooler (sturdy material)\nDry erase markers\nHighlighters\nComposition notebooks (wide lined\, black marbled)\nColored pencils (Crayola\, 24 count)\nPost-It Notes (yellow\, 3×3)\nPocket folders (solid colors only)\nZippered pencil pouch with 3 holes for binder (approx 7”x10”)\n\nWe will have the bus at the church all day on the 15th\, we are working hard to have volunteers at the bus throughout the day to make your donation experience as easy and contactless as possible. DESCRIPTION:Quilts of Valor (QOV) National Sew Day is Saturday February 1st.   \nWaunakee’s local QOV group\, Quilting at the Crossroads\, is participating in this event to make quilts for veterans and active duty service members. It will be from 10AM-3PM at Crossroads United Methodist Church\, 5901 Hogan Rd\, Waunakee (lower level\, around back). Each year we get together to cut\, sew (bring your own machine if possible)\, iron\, fold\, piece\, quilt and bind Quilts of Valor. SUMMARY:Kat Trio
DESCRIPTION:The Kat Trio comes to Crossroads! \nAbout: This unique classical ensemble known as the Ekaterinburg Classical Trio\, aka the Kat Trio\, was born in the summer of 1998 in Ekaterinburg\, Russia. Vasil Galiulin\, Victoria Gorbich\, and Vladislav Gorbich\, all graduates of the Ural State Conservatory\, decided to take their love of music and their violin-clarinet-piano arrangements to festivals and concert venues throughout the Urals. They spent much of that summer playing to enthusiastic audiences in town halls and indoor stages. \nThe audience feedback was encouraging\, even inspiring\, all the while reinforcing the overpowering feeling that their calling was to take their new impressions of classical music and their heartfelt performances to a much greater audience. Their first US tour in the spring of 2000 was a major success and these world class players return as often as possible to play for their appreciative American audiences. \nOn the Kat Trio’s 2006 Tour of the US\, violinist Victoria Gorbich and clarinetist Vladislav Gorbich were joined by pianist Viatcheslav Ovchinnikov. Like Victoria and Vlad\, Viatcheslav (nickname: Slava) is a graduate of Ural State Conservatory in Ekaterinburg. \nDuring their work on doctorates at Arizona State University\, Victoria and Vladislav Gorbich were joined by pianist Mauricio Arias\, from Bogata\, Columbia\, a graduate of Fundacion Universitaria Juan N. Corpas\, for two tours. \nVictoria and Vladislav were touring during the summer of 2010 with Patrick Christians\, a graduate of Michigan State University\, as guest pianist. \nDuring 2011-2012\, the Kat Trio was touring as artists-in-residence with Wisconsin Public Radio and the Chazen Museum of Art. For that tour Victoria and Vladislav were joined by pianist Julie Page\, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison. \nPianist Melody Ng was a member of the trio from October 2012 till June 2013. She received her doctoral degree at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and joined the music faculty of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. \nDuring the summer of 2013 Heidi Wiskur was a guest pianist with the group. She continues to collaborate with Victoria and Vladislav in 2013 and 2014. \nJustin Snyder has been performing with Vladislav and Victoria since fall of 2013. Justin moved to Michigan in early summer of 2014. \nToday “The Kat Trio” is Victoria Gorbich\, Vladislav Gorbich and pianist Joseph Ross. They are on the road presenting the trio’s unique Russian arrangements and transcriptions of timeless melodies. The Trio’s concerts feature classical works\, well-known inspirational songs\, and even American pop standards\, including Scott Joplin’s rags.
