SUMMONS
TO: Fellow Citizens with God’s People
You are being summoned by this notice to serve on the jury in the retrial of Jesus to be held at our church in the season of Lent. The following person have been subpoenaed to serve as witnesses: Peter, Mary Magdalene, Judas, Nicodemus and Caiaphas. On the basis of their testimony the prosecuting attorney will endeavor to establish that the world would be better off with Christ and the church. The defense attorney will plead for their lives. You will be the jury.
I believe that you will find the testimony engaging; sometimes profound, and sometimes even humorus. These dramas are not done by professionals—they are done by members of our church family.

Come to these sessions with an open mind. Come prepared to be shocked by accusations made against the church which reflect on Christ. Come prepared to make an honest commitment to your faith. This what Lent is all about.
The penalty for ignoring this notice without excuse is a minimum of five hours of exile from your church family of fellow-worshipers who will miss you.
